I have been wondering... about what percentage of all the cases of heart disease were caused by some use of tobacco, whether it be smoking or chewing?
I also want to know this stuff, anyone here can answer this? Is there a huge chance of having a heart disease or disorder for chain smokers?
Cigarette smoking increases the risk of coronary heart disease by itself. When it acts with other factors, it greatly increases risk. Smoking increases blood pressure, decreases exercise tolerance and increases the tendency for blood to clot. Smoking also increases the risk of recurrent coronary heart disease after bypass surgery.
Does anyone have any statistical data for this?
Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., and the leading cause of death caused by smoking. Smoking is hard on the heart, and the toxins in cigarette smoke cause plaques to form in the arteries, which leads to atherosclerosis, otherwise known as hardening of the arteries.
That is from the QUIT site. No figures are given there and it is hard to say that those who smoke wouldn't have been prone to Coronary heart disease if they didn't smoke.
