Hi. I am a tension headache sufferer and am prescribed fioricet for the pain. I have been taking it for a week now and yesterday, I was talking to a friend of mine over the phone and she told me that fioricet may cause rebound headaches. So far, it’s been good to me but I would like to ask if this “rebound headache” is indeed an expected side effect of this drug? Thanks for the help.

Hi. Let me give you the info about rebound headaches first. Rebound headache is what they call for headaches caused by taking too much pain relieving medications. It's like it's the medication itself is what's causing the headache. Example, you get a headache. Then you take your medication. The pain will be gone but once the drug's effects wear off, the pain is gonna be much more painful than the original headache's. Making you take a higher dosage. And then the cycle goes on and on. Now, I'm also a tension headache regular sufferer and also use fioricet with some paracetamol and so far, I haven't experience any rebound headache. But then again, our bodies are not the same so if ever you experience any rebound headache, make sure you talk to your doc about it. That way, you can try other ways of managing the headaches. Hope this helps!
