A new report confirms Australia is in the grip of a diabetes epidemic, with children 20 per cent more likely to be diagnosed with the insulin-dependent form of the disease than seven years ago.The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare study also finds that sufferers are three times more likely to die prematurely than other Australians.
